Volunteers Needed to Assist with Yard Debris Clean-up Efforts
The United Methodist are leading an effort to assist the elderly and individuals with functional needs in the clean-up of their yard debris from Winter Storm Pax. Volunteers will meet at Bethany United Methodist in Summerville and St. George United Methodist, tomorrow, March 1 at 8:30AM. Teams will be sent out to pre-designated areas to move yard debris to the right-of-way for contractor pick-ups which begins Monday. Dorchester County Activates Debris Removal Contract
On Wednesday, February 26, Dorchester County Council approved spending up to $800,000 from the County Reserve Fund for the purpose of activating contracts for debris removal and monitoring. Use of the County Reserve Fund requires a supermajority approval per Section IVX of the budget ordinance. At present, the fund has $3,804,145 in balance. The County is hopeful that these expenditures may be eligible for FEMA reimbursement. Any funds received by FEMA or the State will be returned to the County Reserve Fund.
