Dorchester County
Board of Elections and Registration
The Dorchester County Board of Elections and Registration is responsible for:
- The registration of eligible citizens 17 years of age or older to vote
- Verifying the petition signatures for nonpartisan candidates, parties and requests for referenda
- Conducting all absentee voting for Dorchester County
- Keeping permanent records of all registered applicants
- Monitoring the demographic data for changes to ensure that the correct districts are assigned to voters
- Offering assistance to voters with disabilities (parking, wheelchair access, magnifying glasses, electronic voting for the blind, or personal assistance)
- Distributing voter registration applications to various public offices
- Processing completed registration applications
- Training outside agencies' employees on how to properly register voters
- Monitoring local, state and federal changes in laws that affect Dorchester County voters
- Conducting local, state and federal elections
- Recruiting, training and certifying Poll Managers
- Performing various steps in certification of candidates
- Tallying and presenting election results
