James H. Messervy, Jr., known best as JJ, was born and raised in Dorchester County. He is a graduate of Summerville High School and an honor graduate of the University of South Carolina. While at USC, JJ received a Bachelors degree in Finance and Risk Management.

Since returning from college, JJ has been very involved in his community, including holding several leadership positions. He is past fundraising chairperson, Vice President, and President of the Francis R. Willis SPCA, located in Summerville, where he still volunteers. He enjoyed many of his duties at the FRWSPCA, but took the most pride in running of the non-profit's largest fundraiser for 4 years--the annual SPCA Oyster Roast. This event saw unprecedented growth under JJ's leadership and now is the SPCA's largest fundraising event every year. JJ is currently the Treasurer for the Summerville Exchange Club, where he also serves as co-chair of their fundraising committee. He also serves on the fundraising committee for the Summerville Sertoma Club and on the board of directors for the Miler Country Club. JJ is the co-founder and acting past president of the Summerville Young Professional council.

In 2008, JJ was given the opportunity to volunteer as the Public Address Announcer for the Summerville High School football games and wrestling matches. He looks forward to continuing those duties in the future. In 2009 JJ was honored as one of Charleston's "TOP 40 Under 40" by the Charleston Regional Business Journal. When he is not working for the Taxpayers of Dorchester County or volunteering, JJ enjoys playing golf and working in his yard. JJ and his wife, along with their two shelter cats, live in Summerville and are expecting their first child.
