The Fire Department operates under the direction of the County Administrator and is responsible for planning, organizing, and administering mutual aid, fire training programs, fire emergency response, operational guidelines, provides administrative oversight of the County Fire Fund, responds to major emergency incidents, establishes goals of improving fire delivery services and in reducing the Fire Districts ISO rating systems.

The Dorchester County Fire Service is dedicated to safeguarding the lives, property, and environment of our community through exceptional service utilizing education, preparedness, prevention, and response to emergency incidents. An essential function of the department is to provide opportunities for a positive presence in the community. A strong emphasis is placed on connecting the Fire Department/Service and the community together.

  • Dorchester County Receives Improved ISO Classification Dorchester County Fire Rescue has received an improved countywide Public Protection Classification of 5/10 from Insurance Services Office, Inc (ISO). This will result in savings in insurance premiums for the property owners in areas that were previously a Class 6 or greater, including Cattle Creek, Dorchester, Givhans, Grover, Harleyville, Indian Field, Ridgeville, St. George, and Sandhill.
