Street address numerals shall be conspicuously placed immediately above, on or the side of the primary entrance of each building so that the number can be seen from the street.
Residential numbers shall not be less than 3" in height and business numbers shall be no more than 4" in height. These numbers shall be in contrasting color from the building.
Whenever any building is situated more than 50 feet from the street, the number must be placed near the walk, driveway or common entrance to such building upon a mailbox, gatepost, fence or other appropriate place so as to be easily discernible from the street.
All address changes must be complete within 20 days of this letter.
This is an excerpt from the Dorchester County Street Naming and Numbering Ordinance #04-13. Any person who violates any provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be subject to a fine not exceeding two hundred ($200.00) dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding thirty (30) days. Each day which violation continues shall constitute a separate offense.
