Posted Date: 8/9/2017

In observance of the All-American Total Solar Eclipse, all Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Convenience Sites will close at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 21, 2017.

All Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Convenience Sites will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

The All-American Total Solar Eclipse will be visible in Dorchester County, starting at approximately 1:15 PM through 4:00 PM. Dorchester County will experience “complete totality” for approximately two minutes from 2:44 PM to 2:46 PM.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), “The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun is through special purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or hand-held solar viewers. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the Sun.”

Residents are also advised to avoid driving and/or to use extreme caution when driving during the above hours.
