The Fire Department operates under the direction of the County Administrator and is responsible for planning, organizing, and administering mutual aid, fire training programs, fire emergency response, operational guidelines, provides administrative oversight of the County Fire Fund, responds to major emergency incidents, establishes goals of improving fire delivery services and in reducing the Fire Districts ISO rating systems.
The Dorchester County Fire Service is dedicated to safeguarding the lives, property, and environment of our community through exceptional service utilizing education, preparedness, prevention, and response to emergency incidents. An essential function of the department is to provide opportunities for a positive presence in the community. A strong emphasis is placed on connecting the Fire Department/Service and the community together.
Dorchester County Fire Rescue has a countywide ISO Classification 5/10
Any property in the response district that is between five and seven road miles of a fire station, and has a recognized water source within 1,000 ft of the property, is classified as an ISO Class 10W. The "W" reflects the additional credit ISO gives to the fire department rating for the recognized water source and its ability to protect the property.
